Luke wins LEGO competition

Luke with the 1st place FIRST LEGO trophy

Congratulations to Luke Whelan from 6th class who along with 6 others from the City Wise Education Youth Centre won 1st place in the FIRST LEGO league competition in Galway last weekend. The group won first place out of 24 teams from all over Ireland. They will now represent Ireland at the European Finals in Germany in May.

Teams of students had to design a project around creating solutions for people over the age of 60. The teams also had to design and programme a robot using LEGO before competing with other teams in a live robot game.

The winning team wowed the judges with their project by creating a smartphone app to remind elderly people to make appointments or to take medicine using voice recognition.

Congratulations Luke and all the very best in Germany.
