Monday 20th January 2014 marked a very special day in our school because we finally got to open our new library. It has taken us nearly two years from start to finish but it was worth it and we now have a fantastic library.
In 2012 we got some finance from Henkel and bought books but had to keep them in a classroom as we did not have a library. That got us thinking……….our computer room was no longer being used and so we started to plan a library for there. We met Colm from Carambola who helped us and introduced us to a very special lady called Jean Webster who guided us with the planning and organisation of the library. Her advice and support for which we are eternally grateful had been invaluable to us. Neil our Fas worker built and installed all the shelves.
Our parents fundraised for the library.
We have twelve Junior Librarians who did lots and lots of work stamping, sorting and scanning the books with Esther. They will help the classes as they get used to the library. They will also work with Esther and Mr Campbell in looking after the library. We hope the library will provide a safe, relaxing and tranquil space for many years to come.
We had a great day at the opening. Orla (Sorcha Furlong) from Fair City did the honours and was very nice. She presented the certificates to the Junior Librarians.
