Global Warming
Global warming is a rise in the earth’s temperature and change in the climates around the world.
Scientists believe that humans are contributing to Global Warming. Cars and factories are emitting carbon dioxide and other green house gases out into the atmosphere. The main green house gases are Carbon Dioxide, Methane and Nitrous Oxide.
These gases are building up around the earth’s atmosphere and forming a blanket that is trapping the heat. As this blanket gets thicker, it traps more heat and causes the earth’s temperature to rise. This is called Global Warming.
The rise in temperature is causing the ice caps to melt, which in turn causes a rise in sea level. Climate around the world is changing and weather is becoming more extreme. Hurricanes. droughts and floods are becoming more and more common. Effects of these include, people loosing their homes, lives being lost and lots of money being spent on reconstruction.
What can we do to help? We can reduce, reuse and recycle. This means less materials need to be remade and less energy is burned to do so. By planting more trees, they will reduce the amount of CO2 in the air. We can use renewable energy instead of burning fossil fuels.
If the temperature continues to rise, Earth will become too hot for life to exist on it. It could become similar to Venus where the layers of gases trap the heat making it the hottest planet in the Solar System.
