The Credit Union is a quiz for all 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class kids across Ireland for them to use their brains and work as a team to answer questions and move to the next round. The aim of the quiz was to work together as a team and have some fun. Reece and I competed in it along with our teammates from 5th and 6th who were Ryan, Yamanda, Abraham, Leon, Harry, Binanca, Keeley and Sophia. We also had two teams of kids from 3rd and 4th, Eve, Narsallah, Dillon, Thomas, Naomi, Hamad, Gracious, Darryl and Gérard. We got a private bus along with our other competitors to St.Marks Gaa Club to compete against approx 200 people.
We went into St.Marks and saw a lot of people sitting in teams of 4 and there was 1 extra person as a substitute in case someone was sick. We sat down on table B8. There were two sections which include Section A and B. The first questions we were asked were the most difficult because they were for the older teams. Most of the kids were extremely happy when they got some answers right and there were great cheers from all of the teams.
Midway through we had a break, we got chocolate croissants, water, apples, crisps, chocolate and some jellies so we wouldn’t be hungry for the rest of the quiz. The substitutes came to our table to ask us what’s going on and how the questions were. After the break we continued on with the quiz and the questions were about history, geography, movies, general knowledge and other stuff. One of the hardest questions was what city sat above Athens and the answer was the Acropolis. We all learned some new stuff about geography and history. We found out that Rome was built on 7 hills and that in the Nato alphabet ‘R’ stands for Romeo.
One of our teams came fourth with a score of 61, which was brilliant as the winners of the quiz got 67 points. That was only 6 points away from the winners. The winning school was St Mary’s from Saggart.
After the quiz ended we all got raffle tickets. The first number to get called was two and six, twenty six. That was Reece, he won ten euros and a card about the credit union. He was thrilled! We all had so much fun, saw some friends from other schools and can’t wait to do it all over again!
